About the LBAP

The Taunton Deane Local Biodiversity Action Plan has been prepared by Somerset Environmental Records Centre (SERC) at the request of Taunton Deane Borough Council. It sets out to review the biodiversity resource within the District, evaluate its importance within a local, national and European context and identify the priority actions that need to be taken to conserve local biodiversity.

The approach broadly follows the pioneering methodology developed by SERC in the Mendip Local Biodiversity Action Plan in 1995, but also incorporates the approach of the national Biodiversity Steering Group report of 1996. It therefore identifies those elements of the resource present in the district which are identified as national biodiversity targets, and, in terms of action, makes a local contribution to the achievement of national targets.
