Pill Paddock

Grid ref: 519 754 / Area: 0.7 hectares

Pill Paddock is a major achievement of the local community. Once an allotment site, it has been transformed into a Trust nature reserve.

How to get there
We encourage visitors to use environmentally friendly forms of transport wherever possible. Most of our reserves are easily accessible by bicycle, with many close to the National Cycle Network. Click here to view a location map of the reserve on the National Cycle Network website.

Alternatively, from the A369, follow main road (The Lodway) through Easton-in-Gordano and turn onto Cross Lanes. Approximately 200m on right, opposite Rudgleigh Road, take public footpath to the Paddock. Reserve is on left after the iron gate.

Access
Reasonable access to edge of reserve for wheelchairs.

Wildlife and conservation
The site is surrounded by mature hedges. These are good for plants, such as red campion, and many birds and butterflies. Local children have planted over 100 young trees, mainly oak and ash, to create a new woodland. For variety, some poplar, elder, willow and field maple have also been added.

A wild-flower meadow is also showing some signs of success - common spotted orchid has been found growing here. The meadow is cut for hay every summer.

Other points of interest
The reserve is managed locally, with special input from the local Watch group.

Further information
The reserve is owned by Easton-in-Gordano Parish Council and leased to the Trust.
