Alternatively, from B4465 or B4048 (Lodge Causeway) at Fishponds in east Bristol, turn into Mayfield Park South/Moorlands Road. Park here and walk down steps into the valley.

Access
Difficult access for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Wildlife and conservation
Known locally as 'The Gosey', Coombe Brook Valley is an oasis for wildlife amongst the housing estates. On either side of the stream are some small wooded areas of hazel, oak and sycamore trees. Most of the reserve is mature scrub of hawthorn and elder, which provides an important home for birds such as wren, greenfinch and spotted flycatcher. Many butterflies can also be seen here in the more open areas of scrub and grassland, including small tortoiseshell, peacock and speckled wood.

Foxes are also known to frequent the valley.

Areas of scrub are thinned out and replanted with a variety of native trees. Some grassy glades are also prevented from growing over, to encourage the growth of flowers and to attract more butterflies.
