Volunteer Work Programme

Are you looking for fresh air, fun and exercise? If so, come along and join us at 10am on Sundays or Wednesdays and do some important and worthwhile practical work on nature reserves around Bristol, Bath and Avon. Note: this includes community wildlife groups as well as AWT local groups

We provide: transport to the site, all the necessary tools, training, and even tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits... All you need are: a packed lunch, old clothes, strong shoes (preferably steel toe-capped boots) and/or wellies, waterproofs. Meet at at 10am.

Please note: The Trust can supply transport for up to 15 people per task. It is advisable to have an up to date Tetanus jab before joining our work groups. For further details please contact us.

Happy New Year! First task this year is scrub bashing to further the grassland restoration project.

9th Tickenham Ridge (GR 444 723)
The last part of the hedge needs laying and then we can get stuck into scrub removal.

16th Brown’s Folly (GR794 660)
We are removing scrub and small trees within the fenced area to improve the grassland area.

23rd Burledge Hill (GR 558 589)
Winter wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Burledge Hill. Great views, a big fire and plenty of scrub to bash, perfect!

30th Lower Woods (GR 746 881)
We’re coppicing today in the beautiful Lower Woods in South Gloucestershire. Bring your camera!

6th Folly Farm (GR 610 603)
The task is to remove scrub and gorse from the top of Round Hill, with good views of Chew Valley Lake and the Folly development.

13th Willsbridge Mill (GR 665 708)
Clearing paths and walkways today so access is improved for the new Geology Tour that will be starting soon.

20th Burledge Hill (GR 558 589)
Slashers at the ready. We are clearing scrub on the grassland to continue the restoration project.

27th Dolebury Warren (GR 455 590) 
Dolebury Warren is interesting in terms of wildlife and Archaeology. We are cutting Gorse near the hill fort to complete our stewardship plan.

5th    Walton Common (GR 425 736)
We are clearing scrub around the rides today so we can expand the grassland and improve our summer grass cut.

12th Bathampton Oxbow (GR 783 671)
Admire the work that has been carried out on the oxbow and do your bit by helping to improve the grassland by clearing scrub.

19th Brown’s Folly (GR794 660)
Help us to clear trees and scrub from the top of the grassland, whilst enjoying the amazing views of Bath.

26th   Stockwood Open Space (GR 625 693)
Scrub clearance is our plan. Clearing scrub will improve the cut on existing orchid meadows in the summer.

6th Folly Farm (GR 610 603)
Round Hill at Folly Farm is our destination today, to carry on with the scrub and gorse removal.

13th Burledge Hill (GR 558 589)
We’re making brilliant progress on the grassland restoration. Help us by coming out and grabbing a slasher to remove encroaching scrub.

20th Royate Hill (GR 618 748)
Today we are cutting the edges of the well-used footpath that runs through this popular green space.

27th Dolebury Warren (GR 455 590) 
Amazing views over Langford and Churchill is a bonus when you’re cutting gorse to improve the grassland

3rd Stockwood Open Space (GR 625 693)
Help us improve this urban site and its lovely grassland meadows by removing scrub so we can expand the meadows.

10th Burledge Hill (GR 558 589)
Last chance this winter to help us make an impact on the scrub infringing the edge of the grassland.

17th Folly Farm (GR 610 603)
We are removing scrub on Round Hill with views over Chew Valley.

24th Walton Common (GR 425 736)
Scrub removal! Get your muscles flexing as we remove brambles and small trees to recover the grass meadow.

2nd Bathampton Oxbow (GR 783 671)
This little visited reserve is brilliant for birds, so bring along your binoculars and help improve the site with scrub removal.

9th Walton Common (GR 425 736)
Last scrub clearance for this programme is at Walton Common, with views of the Gordano Valley.

16th Folly Farm (GR 610 603)
The new centre at Folly Farm will nearly be finished. The task of scrub clearance on Round Hill will give us a good view across to the Farm.

23rd Dolebury Warren (GR 455 590) 
Removing gorse is the task. The removal will enable us to reach our target for the year at this site.

30th Tickenham Ridge (GR 444 723)
A favourite amongst the volunteers due to the warm welcome and tours of the site, we are clearing scrub today.
